Electives & Extra-curricular

Astrea Academy Sheffield is committed to developing the whole child and our curriculum has been shaped around this belief. We believe our scholars are entitled to a curriculum and extra-curricular provision which offers them chances to do things they might have never done before. We think these opportunities are so important that they make up an integral part of our academy day in which everyone in KS3 takes part in.

Electives are activities which take place within the timetabled curriculum and provide scholars with an incredibly broad range of activities that would not be possible to deliver in a normal after school setting. As electives are during the school day, every KS3 scholar has the opportunity to take part – no matter their circumstances.

The activities change each term to give scholars more choice and experiences. Electives gives staff the opportunity to share their varied skills and expertise. Electives which we offer to scholars include: rock climbing, basketball, football, multi-sports, arts & crafts, debate, French, and computing.

These high-quality enrichment sessions include a knowledge rich elective provision for all KS3 scholars to experience additional opportunities.

Our extra-curricular provision is an added quality and offer that we pride ourselves in at Astrea Academy Sheffield. KS4 scholars receive a knowledge rich educational experience through high quality period 6 curriculum sessions for all of their GCSE subjects. KS3 provision allows scholars to represent the academy and local community in competitions and fixtures whilst finding a love of learning and developing their cultural capital. Some of the extra-curricular provision available for KS3 scholars include; technology, science, creative writing, computing, SUFC football sessions, cross-country and many other sporting activities.
