Curriculum
Autumn Term: Introductions (Spanish alphabet, greetings and farewells, classroom language, introducing yourself, age, birthdays, personality, expressing emotions).
Spring Term: Describing yourself (personality, hair and eyes) and talking about your family.
Summer Term: Describing your school including facilities, your opinions on subjects and teachers.
A successful scholar after Year 7 will:
- Acquire a wide range of vocabulary on the topics studied and know high frequency words.
- Understand key grammatical concepts: gender agreement, word order, infinitives, present tense endings and main irregular verbs.
- Understand pronunciation rules and be able to say words correctly and confidently.
- Express and justify opinions about the topics studied.
- Use Spanish in lessons, for example, to ask for a pen or to answer simple questions.
Autumn Term: Describing your school including facilities, your opinions on subjects and teachers.
Spring Term: Describing your town and your area and explaining activities you do in your town.
Summer Term: Describing your house and your ideal house and explaining what you like doing at home.
A successful scholar after Year 8 will:
- Acquire a wide range of vocabulary on the topics studied and know high frequency words.
- Understand key grammatical concepts: gender agreement, word order, infinitives, present tense endings, future tense and main irregular verbs.
- Understand pronunciation rules and be able to say words correctly and confidently.
- Express and justify more complex opinions about the topics studied.
- Use complex language: connectives, structures followed by an infinitive, comparative structures and refer to two time frames.
- Use Spanish in lessons at any opportunity.
Autumn Term: Describing activities at home and in town.
Spring Term: Describing your holiday and referring to past and future holiday.
Summer Term: Discussing if you have a healthy routine and describing food and drink.
A successful scholar after Year 9 will:
- Acquire a wide range of vocabulary on the topics studied and know high frequency words.
- Understand key grammatical concepts: gender agreement, word order, infinitives, present tense endings, future and past tense and main irregular verbs.
- Understand pronunciation rules and be able to pronounce unknown words correctly and confidently.
- Express and justify complex opinions about the topics studied.
- Use complex language: connectives, structures followed by an infinitive, comparative structures and combine three time frames.
- Use Spanish in lessons at any opportunity.
Autumn Term: Local, national, international and global areas of interest – travel and tourism
Spring Term: Identity and culture – me, my family and friends; technology in everyday life and free-time activities
Summer Term: Local, national, international and global areas of interest – Home town, neighbourhood and region
A successful scholar after Year 10 will:
- Acquire a wide range of vocabulary of the topics studied.
- Demonstrate the ability to express themselves spontaneously using three time frames using grammatical knowledge which is complex and varied.
- Answer questions confidently on a range of topics.
- Express and develop their opinions using a variety of complex language.
- Use their linguistic knowledge to infer meaning from unfamiliar language.
- Be confident in the pronunciation of Spanish words.
Autumn Term: Local, national, international and global areas of interest – Home town, neighbourhood and region
Spring Term: Identity and culture – me, my family and friends; technology in everyday life and free-time activities
Summer Term: Local, national, international and global areas of interest – Social and global issues
A successful scholar after Year 11 will:
- Have acquired a wide range of vocabulary of the topics studied and required for their GCSE examination.
- Demonstrate the ability to express themselves spontaneously using a wide range of tenses.
- Answer questions and extend their ideas using complex language confidently on a range of topics.
- Express and develop their opinions using a variety of complex language.
- Use their linguistic knowledge to infer meaning from unfamiliar language.
- Be confident in the pronunciation of Spanish words including unfamiliar ones.
